Ruim twee jaar geleden zijn we begonnen met FiberSpace(Vezelrijk). Tijdens onze evenementen creëerden we een plek voor allemaal soorten handwerk: haken, breien, borduren, weven en naaien. Door te handwerken verzetten we ons tegen de fast-fashion industrie, overconsumptie en het eindeloze verspillen van kleding. De historische en culturele context van het handwerken toont daarnaast de kracht van gemeenschap: het is iets wat je samendoet of alleen met anderen om je heen; een manier om een community te bouwen.

In deze tentoonstelling kun je zien hoe wij deze ideeën hebben aangesloten bij onze eigen artistieke ontwikkeling. Het is een collectie vol nieuwsgierigheid en een passie voor vezels. We hebben nieuwe technieken geleerd, ons verdiept in ouderwetse methodes en materialen uit de textielproductie. Neem een kijkje in ons groeiende textielarchief en onze werken ‘in uitvoering’.

More than two years ago we started FiberSpace. With our events we wanted to create aplace for all forms of needlework: from crochet, knitting and embroidery to weaving and sewing. Needlework can work as a way to counter the fast fashion world of endless consumption and waste while its historical and cultural practice also shows it as a communal craft: something to do together, or by yourself while being together; as a way to build community.

In this exhibition we present how we have connected this to our personal practices and artistic developments. We’ve taken the time to learn new skills, familiarized ourselves with ancient practices and got a deeper understanding of the materials that make up the textiles around us. This exhibition shows work in progress, a growing archive of textile resources, and most of all a curiosity and passion for fibres.
