Come spend the summer solstice at the island and celebrate the seasonal cycles of regeneration and decay!
This rite can be thought of a series of actions that can be ambivalently experienced as a composting workshop and a collective celebration of the summer solstice. It will be facilitated by artist Guillem S. Arquer whose research and work focuses on destabilising notions of waste through composting, the latter understood as a collaborative practice with more-than-human communities.
The morning will be structured around the preparation and making of the organic bedding/biological sponge of the compost heaps at the new facility. This bedding will lay the foundation of the pile in which the humanure collected in the new compost toilet -installed by Guillem-, will be deposited and eventually transformed into compost. The morning will start with an introduction and deep listening exercise after which the participants will be invited to search the island for the materials/ingredients for the composting pile. After making the biological sponge, there will be a closing moment followed by free lunch.
This event will also serve as a moment to publicly put the focus on the new facility as an important element of the operations of the BB as a Zoöp and as a relational site of interspecies metabolic entanglements in the island.
This event is free to attend, but do register, to help us make sure we have enough lunch and materials.
The event will be mainly led in English.
