WATERWAKE builds on Valentina Vella’s previous performances on water, love, and chaos,and now lands at Buitenplaats Brienenoord, a tidal island that feels strangely magical despite the nearby factories, engineered river edges, and the roar of the Van Brienenoordbrug.

How does living below sea level affect the way we love, fear, and relate to each other here in the Netherlands? And what do the Tikkie app and the Oosterscheldekering have in common? Through voice, electronics, modular synths, guitar, and piano, WATERWAKE moves through improvised songs, sound pieces, and stories that circle infrastructures of water and feeling: about the DeltaWorks' resistance against the ocean, the Chicago River’s engineered reversal away from Lake Michigan, Frisian terpen, Brienenoord’s Chaos Cows, Roman romances by the Tiber, the Zanclean flood, the hidden forest beneath Venice,and more.

The performance is co-performed and co-improvised with Luke {LISA} Deane, StephenKerr, and Mitsitron. Valentina and Luke will also soon release an album featuring songs they created together for this project. It may even be out the same day. If not, there should at least be posters.
