The Island and its surroundings are full of sound. But is this sound a background soundscape to the green environment? Or are you engulfed by the noise of cars, factories, boats, birds, bees and many other things? Sound is there, beyond our control and it forms our experience of a space. What happens when you amplify certain sounds — record them, manipulate them, compose with them?

During this day, sound artists who have immersed themselves in the Island present new work: Rachel Beckles Willson and Real End (Played by the Waves), Tymon Zaniewski (Habitat), Luca Ariello & Celeste Wright (Birds, mostly) and instruments from the Island Orchestra. Come and experience the sounds, play some instruments and hear the Island in a different tone.

Ecophonics is part of our ongoing artistic research into the Island and focuses on listening as a way of knowing a place.

Het Eiland en zijn omgeving zit vol geluid. Maar is dat een achtergrondgeluid bij de groene omgeving? Of word je omgeven door het lawaai van auto's, fabrieken, boten, vogels, bijen en zoveel meer? Geluid is er, buiten onze controle en bepaalt mede hoe we een plek ervaren. Wat gebeurt er als je bepaalde geluiden versterkt, ze opneemt, bewerkt, ermee componeert?

Op deze dag presenteren geluidskunstenaars die zich ondergedompeld hebben in het Eiland nieuw werk: Rachel Beckles Willson en Real End (Played by the Waves), Tymon Zaniewski (Habitat), Luca Ariello & Celeste Wright (Birds, mostly) en instrumenten van het Island Orchestra. Kom luisteren, speel zelf op de instrumenten en hoor het Eiland in een andere toonsoort.

Ecophonics is onderdeel van ons lopende artistieke onderzoek naar het Eiland en draait om luisteren als manier om een plek te leren kennen.
