Caoimhe & Orla nodigen je uit in een ruimte van maken en verhalen vertellen, met de Keltische mythologie als uitgangspunt. Samen zullen we fragmenten van mythen, verzameld uit archief teksten en boeken, vertalen naar een groot textielwerk. We gaan snuffelen door Ierse mythologie en emmers vol levendige stukken textiel. Via stof-, steek- en compositiekeuzes gaan we leren een evoluerend, niet-lineair verhaal te vertellen met textiel. 

De workshop reflecteert op de manier waarop mondelinge tradities gelaagd, repetitief en open voor interpretatie zijn en hoe we ze opnieuw vorm kunnen geven door te handwerken. Terwijl deze mythologische verhalen opnieuw vorm krijgen, zal er wat CHAOTISCH knippen, ontmantelen, herschikken en verfraaien plaatsvinden. We zullen naaimachines gebruiken, en technieken zoals droogvilten, applicatie en borduurwerk. Maar in plaats van ons te richten op de technische kanten van het handwerk, ligt de nadruk op het collectief maakproces, waarbij meerdere stemmen en perspectieven met elkaar verweven raken tot een gemeenschappelijk tapijt vol kleur en textuur.

Caoimhe & Orla invite you into a space of making and storytelling, drawing on Celtic

mythology as a point of entry and connection. During this workshop we will translate fragments of myth gathered from archival texts and books into a large scale textile piece. We will rummage through some Irish mythology, and buckets of vibrant scrap materials together to respond intuitively through fabric, stitch, and composition, contributing to an evolving, non-linear narrative.

Through conversation about circular and non-hierarchical storytelling, the workshop contemplates and attempts to reflect how oral traditions are layered, repetitive, and open to interpretation, and can be reimagined through textile practices. There will be some CHAOTIC cutting, dismantling, rearranging and embellishing as our reinterpretations of mythology create another rendition of these stories, combining them in new ways, and playing with their structures. We will use sewing machines, and techniques like dry felting, applique and embroidery, but rather than focusing on technical textile mastery, the emphasis is on collective authorship, where multiple voices and perspectives intertwine to form a richly textured, communal tapestry of sorts.
