After a residency period at Buitenplaats Brienenoord performers Aisha Hetzel, Lío Spinnewijn in collaboration with composer Sophia Bardoutsou welcome you to a showing of their work in progress; Can you carry me?  The showing tells a tale about the sticky rosin that leaks out of pine trees. The performers climbing the rope, the trees, and each other relying on its stickiness to improve their grip. But the forests this rosin comes from, are currently burning all over Europe. Beneath the layers of ash, stories of oppression and depletion emerge.

Then, what does it mean to carry this loaded material up into the rope?  ‘Can you carry me?’ is a rehearsal of what it means to carry the invisible load of dying forests in sticky hands.

Na een residentie periode bij Buitenplaats Brienenoord laten performers Aisha Hetzel, Lío Spinnewijn en Sophia Bardoutsou hun nieuwste work in progress zien van; “Can you Carry me?’ Deze try out vertelt het verhaal van plakkerig hars dat stroomt uit de stam van dennenbomen. De performers klimmen in het touw, in de bomen en op elkaar, waarbij ze vertrouwen op de kleverigheid om hun grip te verbeteren. Maar de bossen waar dit hars vandaan komt, staan al de hele zomer in brand over heel Europa. Onder de lagen as komen verhalen van onderdrukking en uitputting naar boven. Wat betekent het om dit beladen materiaal mee te dragen het touw in? ‘Can you carry me?’ Is een repetitie in het dragen van onzichtbaar gewicht; verhalen uit stervende bossen doorgegeven in plakkerige handen.

Lío Spinnewijn (2000) is a performance artist and researcher. They graduated in 2023 with an honours bachelors of Fine Arts, at the Willem de Kooning Academy (Rotterdam). Currently they are roaming with the DAI to pursue a masters degree in art praxis.

Aisha Hetzel (2000) is a circus artist. She graduated with a Bachelor degree from Codarts Circus Arts (Rotterdam) in 2024 and is now based in Brussels. She specialises in aerial rope, finding her own style in combining static and bungee rope techniques.

Sophia Bardoutsou (1996) is a composer, researcher, and educator who treats composition as a social practice. Currently she is a doctoral candidate at Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam.

Common Bread Sauna

Tijdens deze avond stoken we de Common Bread Sauna van beeldend kunstenaar Steven Jouwersma ook op. De houtgestookte sauna - waar tot 12 personen tegelijkertijd (gekleed of ongekleed) in kunnen - heeft aan de buitenkant een oven waarin we pizza's bakken. Wij zorgen voor de ingredienten, maar jullie moeten ze maken. De pizza's deel je daarna met de andere mensen.

Deuren open: 17:30

Sauna en pizza bakken: 18:00 - 20:00

Performance: 20:00

Tijdens de performance is de sauna gesloten, daarna gaat deze wel weer open tot uiterlijk 22:00.
