To resound is not just to project sound, but to listen, respond, and shape the echo of our surroundings. This event invites you to take on both roles—actively listening and responding—engaging with tools developed at the island throughout the artistic research project “Resonant Cycles”. Through play and creative speculation, we attempt to establish connections between human and non-human entities on the island of Brienenoord and the city of Rotterdam.
Sophia Bardoutsou is a composer and researcher exploring composition as a social, rather than an individual practice. Her work lies at the intersection of acoustic sound, digital media and diverse disciplines. Through the use of interactive media and techniques that incorporate indeterminacy, she often empowers performers and the audience to shape the creative outcome. She is a Professional Doctorate candidate at Codarts University of the Arts, where her research project, The Resonance of Vocalising, explores performative imaginings of future ecological ways of being through collective vocal and listening practices.
