Where Hope Hangs is een hedendaagse circusact die zoekt naar hoop in een wereld die een uitzichtloze richting lijkt in te slaan. Wanneer thuis ver weg voelt en onzekerheid de overhand krijgt, hoe blijven we dan toch doorgaan, en hoopvol? De voorstelling combineert luchtacrobatiek, spoken word en Estse folklore om de oprechte gedachten, angsten en groei van de artiest te verbeelden. Het publiek wordt meegenomen naar een bijna heilige plek waar kracht te vinden is in natuur, tradities, beweging en gemeenschap.

Mia Erika Peterson is een Estse circusartieste. Opgegroeid in een familie van beeldend kunstenaars, ontwikkelde ze al vroeg een sterke band met visuele expressie. Op haar tiende begon ze bij een jeugdcircus en verhuisde later naar Rotterdam om haar kunsten aan Codarts te verdiepen. Mia specialiseert zich in aerial rope, maar houdt ook van handstanden, contorsie, tekenen en poëzie. In haar werk staan oprechte menselijke ervaringen, poëtische beelden, symboliek en krachtige visuele taal centraal.

Where Hope Hangs is a contemporary circus performance that searches for hope in the world that has taken a hopeless course. When home feels far and uncertainty is taking over, what can we do to keep on going and remain hopeful?  The act combines aerial rope technique with spoken word and Estonian folklore to express the performer’s sincere thoughts, fears and inner growth. It takes the audience into a sacred place where nourishment can be found in nature, traditions, movement and community.

Mia Erika Peterson is an Estonian circus artist. Growing up in a family of visual artists, Mia developed a strong connection to visual expression from an early age. She began circus at the age of 10 in a youth circus, before moving to Rotterdam to deepen her practice at Codarts. Mia specialises in aerial rope, but also enjoys handstands, contortion, drawing and poetry. Her work values the sincerity of human experience, poetic imagery, symbolism and strong visuals.
